Sculpting the Human Muscles

During my last semester, I decided to take the second level of my school's Digital Figure Sculpting class. I had taken the first level a few years prior and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, the first time I took it I ran into a lot of troubles including working on nothing but a laptop that broke halfway through the semester, health issues, and the class being online. I was happy I got to take the second level of the class in person and got to see my improvement. This time, the class was in person so I was able to receive more feedback, I had my PC built and access to the school's computers, and I was a lot healthier which led to a huge increase in productivity and improvement in my work.
The first level of the class is about making all the muscles of the human male body and sculpting it to fit the shape of an average male stature. The second level does the same in sculpting each individual muscle but instead for a female figure. I find studying anatomy so important for artist working with characters in any compacity and this class is truly a huge help in doing that in a 3D sense.
While I still had some difficulties the second time around as it had been a while since I had used ZBrush, I was able to get back into the swing of things pretty quickly. I was able to use the tool a lot better this time around and make more accurate looking muscles. I had troubles when creating the skin with the merging of everything but was still able to get a decent build out of the model this time around. As for the head, hands, and feet, we focused less on those since the course was mostly about getting the major muscles in the human body looking right. Instead, we just did each of those parts in class and put them as more of a placeholder to make the model look complete rather than focus on all of the small, individual muscles of the hands, feet, and head. However, I had improved a lot of my sculpting skills this time around so I was able to make better speed sculpts this time around of them.
